Student council Distinction evidence #10

On Wednesday I had to leave class at 12:15 because I had student council.  When I got there, there was already some people there.  After a while we did the roll to see what classes were and were not there.  We sent runners to the classes that were not there and shortly later they came.  In the meeting we talked about who did homework and who didn't.  There was 3 classes that didn't do homework.  We all suggested 1 thing and it had to be about what they want student council do be like in the future and what they do when they run the meetings.  Then we had a talk about why the classes were not doing there homework and what we can do next year to make classes do there homework.  This is also the last student council meeting for the year so there was not homework.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to attend the meeting

Senior Librarian Distinction evidence #10

On Thursday I did not have my library duty because it is stock take in the library and no one can do there duty.  So I have tried to help out by I couldn't because it needs to be done by an adult.  This blog post will be a reflective blog post about my library duty.

What is the best part about your role: It would be seeing who has got a overdue library book and sometimes telling them off.

What do you do in your role: I print overdue lists out and staple some stuff to it and put it in class piles.

I showed leadership by turning up to my duty and doing it properly.

Senior Librarian Distinction evidence #9

On Thursday I didn't have to do my library duty because the library is closed for stock take,  I couldn't help out in the library in any other way so I am going to do a reflection post.  I have also turned up to my duty every week except one or two weeks.

What has been the best part about my role: is that you get to see who has got overdue books and you sometimes get to tell people.

Have you helped out any other ways in the library: yes, I have helped out many time in the mornings, at morning tea, lunchtime and after school.

Student Council Distinction evidence #8

On Wednesday I had to leave class at 12:10 because I had Student Council at 12:15.  When I got there, there was not many people there so I went and asked the office to do a ding ding because know one was there. Then they told me that student council didn't start in till 12:25 so they didn't need to do a ding ding.  When I got back to the hall I told Hannah that student council didn't start till 12:25.  When most people got there we did the roll to see what classes were and were not there.  There was 2 classes that we had to go and get, once they came we talked about what is happening on pet day.  We said that the pets go in the hall and the pet parade is at 9:30.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to attend the meeting.

Senior Librarian Distinction evidence #8

On Thursday I didn't have to do my library duty because Mrs Ward is starting stock take and you can no longer get books out from the library.  In the weeks coming we will be doing the overdues because everyone needs to get there book back to the library but it doesn't matter yet.  I have helped out in the library this week by putting books away in the mornings and issuing books for people in the morning as well.  Overall this year in the library I have been very helpful because I always turn up to my library duty, I help out at lunchtime by issuing and returning books and putting books back on the shelf's.  I have also helped out by being in the library practically every morning to help out with any issuing and returning that needs to be done, I have also turned the computer on every morning and got it ready when Mrs Ward was away.  I showed leadership by helping out in the library without being asked all the time.

Student Council Distinction evidence #7

On Wednesday at 12:10 I had to stop what I was doing at put it away because I had student council at 12:15.  When I got there, there was not many people there at all, so I asked if they could do a ding ding and say that student council is on in the hall foyer.  After a while a few more people came but there was still very little people there.  The reasons why people were not there was because the year 5's were away on camp and lots of people were sick.  After that we started the meeting, we couldn't really talk about much because everyone needed to hear it.  What we said was that everyone had to make a poster about pet day saying what date it is and some info about it.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to attend the meeting.

Helping out around the school distinction evidence #5

On Tuesday I had to go to an entrance test at Riccarton High School because I am going there next year.  I got back to school at 11 am.  There was 1 person that was back already and she told me where to go and what to do.  After morning tea I went to the new entrance class because we had to help them do there learning.  Shortly after everyone else came.  Some of us went with one teacher to do some reading and the other people did action stations.  At the action stations they do a range of activities like coloring, shopping (with the little shop from new world), playing with blocks, writing on whiteboards and much more.  I showed leadership by helping out in the new entrance class.

Friday 4 November 2016

Senior Librarian Distinction evidence #7

On Thursday I didn't have to do my library duty because we are going to stop doing the overdue's because we are going to start seeing if all of the books are in the library.  If they aren't we have to send a letter to them so they can return it before the year ends.  As part of seeing if all of the books are there we close the library and no one is aloud to get any books out because we have to scan every book in the library and there is probably more then 1,000 books in the library.  I have also helped out in the library this week on Wednesday by turning on the computer and getting it ready to be used.  I showed leadership by helping out without being asked.

Student Council Distinction evidence #6

On Wednesday I had to leave class at 12:10 because I had student council at 12:15.  When I got there, there was not many people there so we waited for a bit and then Jack and the other seniors came.  Hannah was not there so Jack had to run student council.  We talked about the end of year fun day and the themed mufti day which is sports.  For the end of year fun day we came up with lots of ideas including sponge the staff, pool activity's, sport games, art, crafts and lots more.  I think it is going to be a good day.  For the themed mufti day we had a choice from PJ's and sports stars.  We had a vote and sports star won by a lot.  After that we narrowed it down to sports because the little kids might not know any sports stars so it is sports.  I showed leadership by attending the meeting and contributing to the meeting.

Technology at Lincoln Distinction evidence #4

On Tuesday I had to get to school at 8:20 because we had technology at Lincoln and the bus left at 8:30.  When we got there I went straight to mandarin because we had it at 9:30.  In mandarin we went over what we learnt last week which was family members.  After mandarin I went back to the cooking class and waited outside for the teacher.  After everyone got there we went inside and washed our hands and got our aprons on.  Next we got told what we were making, it was pinwheel scrolls and scones.  We paired up and each pair did 1 recipe.  I did pinwheel scrolls.  To make them we made a dough with flour, baking powder, milk and butter.  After making it into dough, we made it into a rectangle and put lots of cinnamon on it.  After that we rolled it up and cut it into 8 pieces. Finally we put them into the oven for 10-15 minutes.  I showed leadership by listening to the teacher and being careful.

Treaty of Waitangi

Treaty of Waitangi
In the Treaty of Waitangi we learnt about the basics of the treaty like who signed it, where it was signed and that the Maori and the Europeans signed it. Mr Muller said that it is a very complicated thing to learn about. The thing I found interesting was that so many people signed the treaty. The thing I want to learn more about is what arguments they had when they were signing the treaty.

Senior Librarian Distinction evidence #6

On Thursday once the 12:50 bell rang I went straight to the library because I had senior librarian duty.  I was alone again because Madyx and Jonathan had something else on.  When I got there I asked Mrs Ward to print out the overdue lists.  We don't print out all the classes now because Mrs Ward emails the Kauri team because they should be checking there emails every day.  When Mrs Ward went to grab the overdue lists I went to get a pair of scissors, a stapler and the folder.  Once she got back I got straight to work.  It only took me about 15 minutes.  Once I finished I put the stuff back and went and enjoyed my lunchtime. I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to do my library police duty.

Student Council Distinction evidence #5

At 12:10pm I had to leave class because I had student council at 12:15pm.  This week we had Mrs Hall who came to the meeting.  First we did the roll to see what classes were and were not there.  After that we sent 2 runners to get the classes that were not there.  Once everyone got there we started talking about what the theme is for the mufti day that is coming up.  We had lots of options to choose from but we had a vote and sports won.  So the mufti day has a theme and it is sports.  That is what we talked about for all the meeting.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to attend the meeting.

Technology at Lincoln Distinction evidence #3

On Tuesday I had to get to school at 8:20 because we had technology at Lincoln and the bus left at 8:30am.  When we got there I went straight to class.  This week we started a new class, I am in cooking now.  This week we made a hangi.  Some weeks we make 2 things but other weeks we make 1 thing.  First we had Mandarin and then we went over safety and the rules for cooking.  Next we made groups of four and chose where to sit. After that each group got a vegetable and we had to cut it up into 4 pieces. Then we put them all on a desk and we got a plate and got 1 of each vegetable and a chicken nibble.  After that we wrapped them in tinfoil and put them into the oven for 45 minutes.  After that we ate them, they were good.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to catch the bus.

Parliament

Parliament

This term we have been learning about Parliament. We have looked at the difference between government and parliament, NZ parliament, who is in government, how our government works and we compared democracy to dictatorship.

Three things that I learned are NZ parliament are:

  • John Key has been kicked out of parliament.
  • John Key sits in the fourth seat on the right.
  • The Sargent in arms brings the maize into every parliament session

Here is the link to my compare and contrast map explaining the difference between democracy and dictatorship.

Senior Librarian Distinction evidence #5

On Thursday at lunch time I had Library Police duty.  Once the 12:50 bell rang I went straight to the library.  This week I had Jonathan to help me out.  We do not have to do as much work now because Mrs Ward emails the Kauri team when they have an overdue book.  There was not much room in the library so we had to sit out the back.  There was only about 5 classes with overdue books so it only took about 10 minutes.  First we got Mrs Ward to print the overdue list.  Then I got a stapler and a pair of scissors,  Jonathan got the folder and the overdue lists.  All we have to do is staple cards onto the lists.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to do my library police duty.

Technology at Lincoln Distinction evidence #2

On Tuesday I had to be at school at 8:25am because the bus leaves for technology at Lincoln at 8:30am .  Once we got there I went straight to class.  I am in science and we were doing robotics.  First the teacher told us how to use them.  Next we buddied up with someone and chose what robot we were going to make.  I don't know what robot we made but it was a very hard one to make.  We had a 45 minute session then we went to mandarin where we learnt about family's.  After mandarin we had morning tea.  After morning tea we had another block building robots.  Half way through the block some people started finishing there robots.  After you have finished you have to program them on the computer.  We did not get to program our robot because we finished with 10 minutes to go and it would not program.  I showed leadership by helping my partner with building our robot.

Senior Librarian Distinction evidence #4

On Thursday once the 12:50 bell rang I went to the library because I had library police duty.  Once again I was alone because my other partners didn't turn up.  The library was very busy because the field was closed and everyone was on the courts.  First I got Mrs Ward to go and get the overdue lists from the printer.  Once she got back I got started by grabbing a pair of scissors and the stapler.  This week I had to stand up at Mrs Ward's desk because there was no chairs or tables left.  There was not many overdues which is good because it is less work for me.  After I finished I went outside because the library was still filling up.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to do my library police duty.

Student Council Distinction evidence #4

On Wednesday I should of had student council at 12:15 but it was not because...
At 12 O'clock the four heads and a few others were setting up for Oakland's Got Talent which was happening at lunchtime.
Another reason that student council was not on was because no one turned up because it was the last week of the term and people didn't think it was on.
I showed leadership by telling Mrs Trotter that I couldn't be there because I had other commitments.

I can take action to improve the water cycle in Canterbury

In this project I was working with Emily, Nicholas and Sasha and we decided to create a online children's book called Here Comes The Rain.

In this project we decided that our success criteria were:
A good Children’s Story needs...
Why is this important?
Strong characters who evoke strong emotion
So Children get attached to the character.
One that contains a simple and original idea presented with clarity and great power.
So children can read it easily
One that makes the world seem larger and more interesting.
So children get attached to the book
Make sure the words we use is easy for children to understand
So they understand what we are saying
Make sure we have pretty pictures
So they get interested in the pictures

Overall our project met this criteria because we read it to little kids and they liked it.

Helping out around the school Distinction evidence #2

On Friday I got asked to help out at the Oakland's school quiz night.  The quiz night is to fundraise for the year 8 trip to wellington which is in term 4.  In the quiz there are 7 different rounds and there are games, raffles and auctions inbetween the rounds.  There were 10 questions in each round but if you couldn't get an answer you could buy a dot for $2 but you could only buy 5 for the whole quiz.  We played 2 games which were heads and tails and Bourbon toss. Heads and tails work by people choosing hand on head or bottom and if they get it right they stay standing and if they get it wrong they sit down.  Bourbon toss is where people toss coins to try and get it the closest to the bottle, the closest would win the bottle of Bourbon.  The jobs the 4 heads had to do was clear tables, sell dots and raffle tickets and catch people that were on there phones. Overall it was a really fun night and I would go next year.

Student Council Distinction evidence #3

On Wednesday there was no student council because the year 7/8's had the Koru Games on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  This means that people get more time to do there homework which is to fill out the google doc about a new name for the school.  The name has to be something native that was around before the school was.  There are some good names on the doc and there are some classes that couldn't think of any.

The Koru Games is a 3 day sports tournament with a range of sports to do.  There are Gold, Silver and Bronze medals to be one as well.  I showed leadership by filling out the google doc in the elecated time.

The activity I did was Football.  My 2 highlights were scoring a goal because I didn't think I would and scoring a penalty in the shootout because the goals are small.  I am proud of my team because we did really well.  Some advcse on the Koru Games for next years year 7's is don't run and run all day because the next day you will be very tired.

Helping out around the school Distinction evidence #1

On Thursday and Friday the 4 heads ran Oaklands Got Talent.  On Thursday we had to leave class at about 12:10 because we had to setup the hall for the Talent show and we had heaps of help from other year 8's which was good.  First we had to set up the hall foyer because that is where the people come in.  Next we had to setup the chairs on both sides because the Kauri team and parents were on the chairs and Kakano were on the floor.  Next we setup the table for the judges. After that we got the stage ready, and got all the sound system working.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to help setup the Talent show on both days.

Senior librarian Distinction evidence #2

This week I couldn't do my library police duty because I had to help run Oaklands Got Talent.  So I helped out in the library by turning the computer on on Monday and getting it all set up so when classes came in the computer would be setup for them.  I also helped issue and return some books on Monday as well.  On Tuesday I came in at lunchtime and put some books back on the shelves and issued some books for people. On Wednesday morning I came in and turned the computer on and logged in so classes could issue and return books.  I showed leadership by helping out in the library without being asked.

Student council Distinction evidence #2

On Wednesday student council was different because we had school photos.  We got told that our photo was at 12 o'clock, so we went down to the hall and waited for about 10 minutes and then Tony (the photographer) said that it had been moved to 12:20.  So we went back to Voice to Voice and continued on where we were up to there.  At 12:20 we went back over to the hall and there were lots of people there because there was the senior choir and Kapa Haka photos before us.  We waited and waited, but at about 12:40 they said that it was our turn.  We didn't have a student council meeting because of the school photos, so our homework is to still fill out the Google doc.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to attend the photo.

On Thursday once the 12:50 bell rang I went to the library because I had library police duty.  Once again I was alone this week because my 2 partners forgot.  When I got there I asked Mrs Ward if she had printed the overdue lists and she had so it was a job saved for me.  After she gave me the lists I got a stapler and scissors, and got to work.  There is not many overdue books at the moment so it is really good for me because it is less work for me.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to do my library police duty.

Student Council Distinction evidence #1

On Wednesday I had to leave Voice to Voice at 12:15 because I had student council.  When I got there lots of other people were already there.  Next Mrs Trotter came so we did the roll to see who was and was not there.  After that we talked about the Google doc that we had to fill out.  We had lots of drama because some people didn't get it emailed to them and some people hadn't filled it out.  So the homework is to fill out the doc.  For the rest of the meeting we talked about why people haven't filled out the doc.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to attend the meeting.

Information report writing

W.A.L.T write an information report about christchuch's waterways.
Here is my writing on christchuch waterways.

The water cycle ( also known as the Hydraulic cycle)  is a process that water goes through between land, ocean and atmosphere.  The water cycle is a recycled process because no water is added.  During the water cycle the water changes state, it goes from being a liquid to a solid and then a gas.  The water cycle goes through a series of stages.  The stages are Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation, runoff and groundwater.

Evaporation
Evaporation is when the sun heats the water and then the water turns into water vapor.  When the water changes into water vapor it becomes invisible so you can not see this stage happening.  The Evaporation stage happens quicker when the sun is on the water for long periods of time.  Also when the sun has been on the water for a long time the water can heat up to about 100 degrees.  Next the water vapor rises up as a gas and then forms clouds called Condensation.

Condensation/Precipitation
Condensation is when the water vapor forms clouds and Precipitation is when the clouds get too heavy and it rains, sleets, hails or snows.  When clouds form it is made of liquid water and ice.  The currents in the air make the clouds move from one place to another.  Since it is so cold in antarctica it always snows and never rains because the rain freezes into ice and snow.  The next stage is when the rain, sleet, hail or snow has fallen and it goes through the next stage called Runoff and Groundwater.

Runoff/Groundwater
Runoff is when the water runs off the mountains and flows back to sea.  Groundwater is a underground water storage. Some water never makes it back to the ocean because it gets stuck in rocks.  Runoff is water that didn’t get infiltrated(Didn’t sink through dirt.)  Groundwater is a underground water supply which goes to people, wells cities and the ocean.

Overall the water cycle is a never-ending process; it has 5 main stages to make it work they are Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation, Runoff and groundwater.

Senior librarian excellence evidence #10

Over the course of this week I have helped Mrs Ward lots because:

Monday
Before school I helped run the library in the morning by issuing and returning books for people and then putting them back on the shelves.
At Morning Tea I went into the library and put all of the books away that were on the trolley and tidyed the library up.
At lunch time the library was closed so I went in there again and put all of the books away and yet again tidyed up the library.

Tuesday
At lunch time I went into the library and put all of the books away that were on the trolley and then picked up books that were on the floor and tidyed the shelves.
After School Liam and I went into the library and put all of the books away that were on the trolley.

Wednesday
Before school I issued and returned books for people and then put them back on the shelves.
At Morning tea I put all of the books back that were on the trolley and tidyed up the library.
At lunch time I put all of the books away again and then I tidyed up the library again.

Thursday
Before school I issued and returned books for people and then put those books away of the shelves.
At Morning tea I went into the library and put the books away that were on the trolley.
At lunch I did not have to go to the library because Mrs Patten opened the library and the librarians put the books back.

Friday
Before school I issued and returned books for people and then I put those books back on the shelves.
At morning tea I put back all of the books that were on the trolley.
At lunch time I put back all of the books that were on the trolley.

Mrs Ward has been away most of the week and asked me if I could keep an eye on the library for her and help keep it tidy while she is away.

I showed leadership by helping Mrs Ward out all week.

Senior librarian excellence evidence #9

On Thursday once the 12:50 bell rang I went to the library because I had library police duty.  Once again I was alone because my partners didn't show up.  I didn't have to do a full job because there was no wifi so Mrs Ward couldn't print some of the overdue lists but she had already printed some before the wifi went down so at least I still had work to do.  The most annoying thing was that the lists had to be cut up so I had lots of cutting to do.  Once the lists were cut up I stapled the overdue notice to the lists and then gave them to Mrs Ward so she could put them in the teachers pigeon holes.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to attend my library duty.

On Wednesday I had to leave class to go to Student Council and take a laptop with me because the normal minutes taker was at the winter sports tournament.  Once I got there, there was only a few people there.  Once most people got there we did the roll to see which classes were and were not there.  We had to send some runners to get the classes that were missing.  Once they got there we started the meeting.  In the meeting we talked about the SPCA day that we are running and possible fundraisers that we could do.  We came up with about five ideas.  For our homework we have to ask our class what they want in our future school.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to attend the meeting.

My CARE Progress

I have done a check of my CARE progress so far this year.
I am proud of my progress because I have got my BRONZE and I am going for my SILVER now.

How far away are you from reaching your SILVER?  I am pretty far away because I have just started on it.
The area of CARE that I need to try harder in C / A / R / E because I got lots of ticks in the other values for my bronze.
To achieve my SILVER award quicker I need to get on with my work and stay focused.
The one thing that I can do to improve my progress in CARE is stay focused on my work.
We will review CARE progress again at the end of the term.

Senior librarian excellence evidence #8

On Wednesday I got an email from Mrs Ward saying that I didn't have to do my library police duty as it was the last week of the term but I still went over to the library on Thursday because I wanted to help the librarians and help the Kakano students make their lanterns.  Firstly I helped put the library books back on the shelves that were sitting on the trolley.  Next I helped my cousin Matthew make a lantern.  I also helped some other students make there lantern's as well. Lastly I took some photos on a camera for Mrs Ward.  Overall it was a good lunchtime because I helped lots of people.  I showed leadership by being able to help people with there lanterns.

Student council excellence evidence #8

On Wednesday I had to leave class because I had student council and it started at 12:15.  Once I got there, there was not many people there.  After a couple of minutes later the rest of the student council students arrived.  After that we started the meeting by doing the roll to see who was there and who wasn't.  In the meeting we talked about what we are going to do on the SPCA mufti day that we are running.  We are thinking of running face painting for a gold coin donation as well.   I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to attend the meeting.
