Student Led Conference Reflection

The thing I enjoyed most about my SLC was:  Getting all of it done with about 5 minutes to spare.
What went well and why?  Everything went well because I got it done on time.
What were the challenges you faced when preparing and presenting your SLC?  When the wifi went out because I still had to share my writing.
What changes would you make for next time and why?  Not to share so much writing because it took up most of my time.

Senior Librarian Excellence Evidence #6

On Thursday I ate my lunch and once the 12:50 bell rang I went straight to the library to do my Library Police Duty.  I was the only one there this week because the other 2 forgot.  Shortly later my brother Liam came in and I asked him if he wanted to help me because I had lots to do.  Firstly I got Mrs Ward to print out the overdue lists for me then I  had to cut out and staple the overdue cards to the teacher lists and then I did the same to the class lists as well.  There was lots of teachers who have overdue class books and there was lots for the students as well.  There are still lots of overdue's from the seniors which is a bit of a let down.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to do my librarian duty.

Student council excellence evidence #6

On Wednesday I had to had to leave class at 12:15 because I had student council in the hall foyer.  When I got there their was already some classes there.  Shortly after I arrived the rest of the seniors came to the hall foyer.  In the meeting we talked about the positives and negatives of the mufti day for Plunket that happened last Friday.  A positive was we raised $700 dollars but a negative was that the Plunket bear didn't get round to all the classes.  Overall the mufti day was well enjoyed and we raised lots of money which was great.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to attend the meeting.

Technology at Lincoln excellence evidence #8

On Tuesday I had to get to school early because I had technology at Lincoln Primary and the bus left at 8:40am.  Once we got to Lincoln I got off the bus and headed straight to class.  I am in wood work and I am making a stool.  At the moment I am sanding the top of my stool. With the sand paper we start with the P100 and then we move on to the P180 then P320 then P600 then P1000 then P1200 and finally P1500.  At the start of the session I was at P320 and next week I will be sanding with the P1500.  After I have finished sanding the top of my stool I will have to do the legs.  I showed leadership by listening to the teacher and being careful.

Visual Art

Visual Art: WALT: Apply knowledge about shapes and patterns derived from nature into an original artwork

For Visual Art the SOLO level I achieved was: Extended abstract because I can use the water colour techniques well.
The techniques I used in my art work to achieve this level were: Moving colours, shading and glazing.

Here is a photo of my artwork:

My next step in visual art is: Do the shading colours better because you can not really see where I did it.

Senior Librarian Excellence Evidence #5

On Thursday I ate my lunch and then once the 12:40 bell rang I went straight to the library because I had library police duty.  I was the only one there out of the three of us so it took a little longer.  Firstly I asked Mrs Ward to print the overdue list and then I went and got our overdues folder out.  I also grabbed a pair of scissors and the stapler.  When Mrs Ward came back I got the overdue lists and started to cut the overdue cards out and then stapled them on to the lists.  There were not many overdue books from the seniors this time which is better.  Once I had finished I put everything away and gave the year 0-6's to Mrs Ward and I took the year 7/8's back to class.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to do my librarian duty.

Student council excellence evidence #5

On Wednesday at 12:15 I had to leave class because I had student council.  When I got their, there were already some people there.  There was also a visitor from Halswell Plunket because we are having a mufti day on Friday to raise money for them.  There were hardly any seniors there so someone went to get them and once they came Mrs Trotter arrived too.  The visitor shared some information with us about Plunket and it has been around for 109 years and has also changed a lot in that time.  After that the visitor gave us some stickers, badges, posters and balloons.  Mrs Trotter also made some posters so we gave all of the posters out to everyone to hang up around the school.  I showed leadership by listening to the visitor and respecting her.

Technology at Lincoln excellence evidence #7

On Tuesday I had to get to school earlier because I had Technology at Lincoln primary and the bus left at 8:30am.  Once I got to school the class was still locked so I had to wait outside for a bit.  Then the class got unlocked.  I went in and did the roll and then sat down on the mat.  After that we lined up outside and headed to the bus.  We had to wait for a bit because there was no buses there.  Finally they arrived and we got straight on.  Once we got to tech I went straight to class.  I am in woodwork.  Once I got there I hung my bag up on a hook and went inside.  After that Mr Bowers gave me my top to my stool and then gave me some P100 sandpaper and I started sanding it.  After morning tea I moved on to the P180 sandpaper.  It is going to take a long time to sand because after P180 I have got to do P320 then P600 then P1000 then P1200 and finally P1500.  Next week I will be moving on to P320.  I showed leadership by listening to Mr Bowers and getting my work done.

Using a range of multiplicative strategies.

In Maths we have been learning to use a range of multiplicative strategies when operating with whole numbers.

The strategies we have been learning are:

- Estimate the reasonableness of large problems like 1 788 – 891. Could 497 be right?
- Use multiplication to solve addition and subtraction problems eg.
  64 – 48 = as (8 x 8) – (6 x 8) = 2 x 8= 16
- Use doubling / halving, trebling/ thirding and adjusting to solve multiplication problems,
 eg.  12 x 50 solved as 4 x 150= 600
- Use an algorithm to solve multiplication problems.
- Solve problems using simple cube numbers .
- Use an algorithm to solve division problems.

Here is a link to my Multiplicative Strategies Assessment which shows that I know why and how I use particular strategies. This doc also has screenshots to show which IXL activities I have completed as part of my learning.

My next step in my Maths Learning is…… To get onto the division strategy's because I didn't get on to them.

Senior Librarian excellence evidence #4

On Thursday I had my weekly librarian police duty.  Once the 12:50 bell rang I went straight to the library.  When I got there the door was locked so the library wasn't open yet as Mrs Ward was still coming back from her lunch.  After we got let in I got onto the computer and started printing the overdue lists but then Mrs Ward came over and said that she had already printed them off.  After that Jonathan got the overdues folder and we got a stapler, a pair a scissors and the overdue lists and took them over to a table to start.  After that we put them into class piles and and took the year 7/8's back to class.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to do my library police duty.

Student council excellence evidence #4

On Wednesday I had to leave maths because I Student Council at 12:15.  Once I got there they were just starting, then Mrs Trotter came.  In this session we talked about running a mufti day for the Halswell Plunket.  The mufti day will be a gold goin donation and it is on Friday 17th of June.  For the rest of the  meeting we talked about what we are going to do on the mufti day.  Overall it was a way better meeting this week because everyone was listening and we got stuff done.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to attend the meeting.

Technology at Lincoln excellence evidence #6

On Tuesday I had to get to school earlier because I had technology at Lincoln primary and the bus left at 8:30 AM.  When I got to school I had to wait outside for a bit then we were aloud inside.  Once I got inside I did the roll and then sat down on the mat.  After everyone got there we lined up and went out to the buses.  There was one problem, there was no buses there.  We waited outside for a bit then one bus came.  Our group didn't get to go on it because the other group did.  Our group went inside because it was cold and we had been waiting for age's.  Finally our bus came.  We got straight on.  Once we finally got to Lincoln I headed straight to class.  We were in a new class, so I am now in Woodwork.  Firstly we talked about safety and then we started planing for what we are making.  We had a choice out of a tray, clock and a stool.  I am making a stool.  We only got through our planning on Tuesday morning.  I showed leadership by listening and being respectful to the teacher.

Extended Writing
Think of a time when you felt as though you were in a void or when you saw something that happens seldom. Write a paragraph about this.
It was in my summer sport cricket last season.  I got out and I had only got about 10 runs in my innings.  With about 4 games to go I somehow stepped up and got not outs and 20-30 runs each game.  I also bagged a few wickets in these games as well.  It turned out to be a good end to the season for me.

Student council excellence evidence #3

On Wednesday at 12:15 I had student council.  This session was different because Mrs Trotter and Hannah weren't there so Jack and I had to run it.  Jack and I went over to the office to see if we could talk to Mrs Martin because we didn't know what to talk about in the meeting.  Mrs Martin said that we can talk about the learner dispositions.  It was a bad session because they weren't listening and we didn't get much done.  We just let them go because they weren't listening and we were getting sick of it.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to attend the meeting.

Technology at Lincoln excellence evidence #5

On Tuesday I had to get to school earlier because we had technology at Lincoln Primary.  When we were lining up for the buses it started raining.  It was pouring down.  We still had to walk to the bus.  Our group walked to the bus but it wasn't there, so we sat in the hall foyer until one came.  It finally came.  Once we got to Lincoln I went straight to class and today I was making my football pitch.  I had already got my goals, boots and ball.  Making to pitch was very hard because I had to use lots of hot glue and if I got it on me it would burn me.  To make my pitch I needed hot glue, card, my goals, Popsicle sticks and some mesh.  The Popsicle sticks and mesh were for my goal net.  By the end of the session I had finished my football pitch.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to catch the bus.
