Information report writing

W.A.L.T write an information report about christchuch's waterways.
Here is my writing on christchuch waterways.

The water cycle ( also known as the Hydraulic cycle)  is a process that water goes through between land, ocean and atmosphere.  The water cycle is a recycled process because no water is added.  During the water cycle the water changes state, it goes from being a liquid to a solid and then a gas.  The water cycle goes through a series of stages.  The stages are Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation, runoff and groundwater.

Evaporation
Evaporation is when the sun heats the water and then the water turns into water vapor.  When the water changes into water vapor it becomes invisible so you can not see this stage happening.  The Evaporation stage happens quicker when the sun is on the water for long periods of time.  Also when the sun has been on the water for a long time the water can heat up to about 100 degrees.  Next the water vapor rises up as a gas and then forms clouds called Condensation.

Condensation/Precipitation
Condensation is when the water vapor forms clouds and Precipitation is when the clouds get too heavy and it rains, sleets, hails or snows.  When clouds form it is made of liquid water and ice.  The currents in the air make the clouds move from one place to another.  Since it is so cold in antarctica it always snows and never rains because the rain freezes into ice and snow.  The next stage is when the rain, sleet, hail or snow has fallen and it goes through the next stage called Runoff and Groundwater.

Runoff/Groundwater
Runoff is when the water runs off the mountains and flows back to sea.  Groundwater is a underground water storage. Some water never makes it back to the ocean because it gets stuck in rocks.  Runoff is water that didn’t get infiltrated(Didn’t sink through dirt.)  Groundwater is a underground water supply which goes to people, wells cities and the ocean.

Overall the water cycle is a never-ending process; it has 5 main stages to make it work they are Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation, Runoff and groundwater.

My short story

W.A.L.T. Use a range of precise vocabulary to communicate meaning and Use all basic punctuation independently and attempt more complex punctuation (eg semicolons, colons, parentheses) Year 7/8 standard.

The pieces of my writing that are highlighted green are where I have shown my vocabulary and punctuation goal.
My Story...

Geoff's camping trip

One day Geoff went camping in the bush with his workmates from Google.  Geoff has a family, he has a wife called Paige and his wonderful kid called Jeff.  Geoff loves camping especially in the bush, he doesn't like camping at a camping ground because other people are too noisy.

It was Geoff 10th year working at Google so his workmates took him for a trip in the bush camping for a week.  But from there that's when it all went wrong.  It took 5 hours by car to get to the walking track in the bush.  The track takes them 1 whole week to walk.

All of Geoff’s workmates and him have a big travel bag with them.  They all have lots of food, water and a tent.  Overnight they put their tent up and sleep.  When they get up in the morning they light a fire and have breakfast.  It was Geoff's turn to to get the firewood.

Geoff went to get firewood on the 4th morning of their trip.  It was raining the overnight so the track was wet and slippery.  Geoff had to be very careful because if he slipped he would fall down the side of the track and it was a long way down to the bottom.  Geoff finally found some firewood, the wood was wet and slimy, when Geoff bend down to get the wood he slipped.

Geoff was falling he was so scared he didn't know if he was going to live or not, he hit the bottom of the cliff.  Geoff started yelling to his workmates they couldn't hear him.  Geoff workmates started to get worried so they went looking for him, they looked for hours for him and then they finally found him.

Geoff's workmates got out there phones and called emergency services it them 3 hours to get there.  Geoff is rescued after 6 hours of waiting.  Geoff and his workmates get taken to hospital and his workmates get released after 1 day and Geoff gets released after 2 days in hospital.  Geoff returned home to his family and lived happily ever after.

Writing an exposition

W.A.L.T. Follow the writing process to write an exposition.

Here is my conclusion for my exposition.  In the conclusion we have to compare the 2 leaders and say who is the better leader.  I did Richie McCaw and Brendon McCullum.

Overall I think that Richie McCaw is the better leader because Richie has led New Zealand to win 2 world cups and he motivates to win games.

My next step is to put more detail in my conclusion.

My Argument

For writing we have been learning to write an argument using the writing process. The topic was “Are Devices Taking Over Our Lives”. I choose that devices are taking over our lives.

Something I did really well in my writing was Put my writing in paragraphs and elaborate on my ideas.

Here is a section of my writing that shows I can elaborate on ideas really well.
My last example is more phones are being activated each day than babies born, to me that's ridiculous because you can only have a newborn for a short time but you can check Facebook and Twitter whenever you want.  Some people buy a new phone just for the sake of taking photos or checking Facebook or Twitter.  Now for the things that nearly everyone in the world has a phone.
