Striking and Frielding Reflection

WALT: Apply Striking and Fielding activities in a range of sports and activities.

My Strengths

The striking strategies I was able to effectively demonstrate during the games we played were……. Stand side on, Keep your eye on the ball and Play through the shot - follow through.

The throwing and catching strategies I was able to effectively demonstrate during the games we played were……. Cup your hands or reverse cup as early as possible, Keep your eye on the ball. Watch the ball all the way into your hands. Watch the ball all the way to its target, Keep your eye on the ball. Watch the ball all the way into your hands. Watch the ball all the way to its target.

My Next Steps

To improve my striking of a ball I need to have a Good stance because my feet were to close together.

To Improve my catching and fielding I need to Look at where you are aiming to throw the ball and point to where you want the ball to go because the ball went far away instead of going to the bowler.

The game that I enjoyed the most was rounders because everyone gets a bat and a chance to catch the ball

Senior librarian Merit evidence #4

On Thursday at lunch time I had my weekly library police duty with Madyx and Jonathan.  This week was different because it was Easter so we get Friday, Monday and schools get Tuesday off as well.  Because of this week being a short week and next week being even shorter, Mrs Ward said there wasn't much point printing out the over due book lists as teachers would not have much chance to tell the children about the books before we print the lists next week. So instead of doing my normal library duty the heads and deputies meet out the back of the library and we had to come up with an example poster for our poster competition .  It has to have the Oaklands school culture in it.  E.G. House colours, Sports, CARE values etc.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to do my library duty.

W.A.L.T.  Know the equivalent decimals and percent forms of everyday fractions.
In maths my goal has been know the equivalent decimals and percent forms of everyday fractions. I have been working on this goal for a long time and I have finally passed it. https://docs.google.com/a/oaklands.school.nz/document/d/186NKkqQpfYQbGcRc1NxJ6PSkBczwZNi1gGvrciRvSKE/edit?usp=sharing

W.A.L.T. I can gather, evaluate, and synthesise information across a small range of texts

In the year 7/8's we have been learning about the flag debate. We had to pair up and fill out a google doc about the flag. On the doc we had to find some info about the new flag and the current flag. After that we had to group them commen knowelge, Personal Opinion, Statistics, Expert Opinion.

Kauri team event Merit evidence #5 (Run Bike Run)

On Monday the kauri team had there annual Run Bike Run.  It was going to be at Westlake but they don't have toilets so it was at Halswell Domain.  We all have to walk down there because it doesn't take long.  When we got to Halswell Road there was a police officer to stop the traffic so we could cross the road safely.  When we got to the Domain it was very hot so we had to find some shade to sit in.  We could be in a team of 2 or 3 to do the run bike run or do it by ourselves.  When we were not racing one year group would be playing games and when you weren't doing that you had to be in the shade talking.  Our race was last so we had to wait a while.   I was in a team with Joseph T and Madyx.  Joseph was doing the first run, Madyx was doing the bike and I was doing the last run.  We got about 10th out of all the year 7/8 teams.  Afterwards we each got a pozi and then we had to sit back down.  Overall the day was very hot and it was fun competing.  I showed leadership by listening to the teachers and trying my best.

Senior Librarian Merit evidence #3

On Thursday at lunch time I had Senior Librarian duty with Madyx and Jonathan.  We were there to do our library police duty! First off I went on the computer and generated the class lists of overdue books and then printed them out. Mrs Ward had to go and get them from the printer for us as the normal printer we use was not working and waiting to be fixed.  Once we had the pages we got our overdue list folder and stapled the overdue reminder page to each class page.  After we had done that we put them in class order and took out the year  7/8's as we take these back to class ourselves.  I showed leadership by being in the right place at the right time to do my duty.

Technology at Lincoln Merit evidence #4

On Tuesday I had to get to school early because I had tech at Lincoln and the bus leaves and 8:30.  Once we got there I went to class.  The first thing we do is the roll. After that we did an online reflection on how we think it went.  It took a while because there were a lot of questions and the computer that I was on was slow.  After I had done that Jonathan, Scott and I continued making our app.  The worst thing was it cost $25 to start an account to publish games.  For the rest of the time we just made games and saved them in our account.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to catch the bus.

Leadership meeting Merit evidence #3

On Monday we had our weekly leadership meeting where all the 2016 leaders meet and talk about stuff.  In this meeting we started off doing our plans.  For the heads and deputies we are planing a poster competition and it is a gold coin entry and the money raised is going to Ronald Mcdonald house.  After that the heads and deputies started our speech for the run bike run.  The heads have to do the speech but if one of them is away the deputy has to step in and do it.  I showed leadership by listening and contributed ideas.

Reading Author's Purpose

W.A.L.T. I can evaluate writers’ purposes and consider how they have used structure and language to suit these purposes. (Eg: I can make decisions about why the writer has written a piece of writing and how they have used particular structures and words to meet the purpose.)

In reading we had to fill out a sheet about the author purpose.  We had to read 3 texts and then write what the authors purpose was about. It could of been entertaining, informative or persuasive.  Next we had to write down 3 language and 3 structure features about the text.  After we had done that for all three we had to do a similarities and differences chart about the text.

Here is my reading activity. Click the link to see my reading activity.

Senior librarian Merit evidence #2

On Thursday at lunch time I had my weekly library duty with Madyx and Jonathan.  Our role is to print out the overdue book list and get them ready for Mrs Ward to put in the teachers pigeon holes.  We are called the library police.  Also on Thursday Mrs Ward came into our class at 9:00 and gave Madyx, Jonathan and Myself sheriff badges in front of everyone, it was very funny because everyone was laughing.  At lunch time Mrs Ward was not there because she had to go out and do a couple of things, so the library was closed.  The librarian's still came but all they had to do was put the books away.  We just did what we normally do which was print out the overdue book lists.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to do my library duty.

Technology at Lincoln Merit evidence #3

On Tuesday I had to get to school early because it was tech and we leave for tech at 8:30.  There was only 1 bus when we were ready so the other group had to wait.  They didn't have to wait long because the other bus came just as we were leaving.  Once we got there we went to our class, I am in sewing.  The first thing we did was sign in on the iPad and then we got into our group and started our problem.  There was one problem though, our problem wasn't going to work because it was "there's no winter sport" and the choice had already been made.  So we were back to square one.  We had to come up with more ideas.  Our new idea is to make an app/game to put on the App Store/Play Store.  We ended up making a NBA version of a game called 2048.  Instead of the numbers there are photos of NBA players.  We have not published it yet because we ran out of time.  I showed leadership by using my time wisely.

Leadership meeting merit evidence #2

On Monday at morning tea we had our weekly leaders meeting in our class. In this meeting we talked about a very important leadership trait called integrity.  Integrity means being fair and honest.  We also said that if we make a mistake we should fess up to what we did otherwise people won't respect us and say that we lie.  We also meet up with our group that we are doing our plan with.  My group is with Kyla, Hannah and Jack W.  We are planning a poster competition about the school culture but it hasn't started yet.  I showed leadership by being in the right place at the right time to attend the meeting.

Teaching Kākano students games

Today in the middle block the year 8's and 3 year 7's went to the music room deck and showed the year 0&1's how to play some games.  We had to buddy up and my buddy was Cameron.  Our game was Whats the time mr wolf.  We had a group of three and they were awesome because they listened and they played the games well.  The second group we had was not so good because they didn't listen to our instructions and they kept wanting to change games.  Overall it was ok but the last group was a let down.

The Food Forest

Yesterday afternoon and this morning, half of the year 8's worked in the food forest.  Yesterday afternoon we were working around the back of rooms 12/13.  We were pulling out all of the of the plants in the food forest.  Also I jumped on the trailer because it was getting full I stayed on it for awhile because there was so much stuff.  It was very hard work because the plants were big.  Today we went behind room 19 and there was a hole heap of corn that needed to be pulled out the place that the corn was id called maize maze.  After all of that the trailer was nearly full again so Madyx and I hoped on and started jumping on the stuff.  After all of it was done we went back to class and read for about 15 minuets and then had morning tea.

Yesterday morning and this afternoon my group of five went to room 17 and 19.  In room 17 we did action stations which are places were the kids go and there are things for them to do regarding learning.  In room 19 we went to music with them.  In there music they sang lots of songs with actions and that was just about it.  I showed leadership by getting involved.

Here is a photo of us pulling out the stuff in the maize maze.  By Dylan

Technology at Lincoln Merit evidence #2

On Tuesday's the year 7/8's went to tech at Lincoln primary school.  Once we got there we went to our classes.  I am in sewing.  As soon as we got there we had to do the roll by tapping on our face twice.  Mrs Scott and Mrs Patterson set that up.  The first thing we did was discuss what we were going to do and then we started planning for our new activity.  We had to write down problems that were annoying us.  Once that was done we found a group, my group is Jonothan, Scott and me.  We had to compare all of our ideas and then choose 1 idea.  Our idea was to have winter sport.  So we had to think of ways to to get our message through.  We are going to do a survey and then right a letter to Mrs Trotter about it.  I showed leadership by getting to school on time so I didn't miss the bus.

Leadership meeting Merit evidence #1

On Mondays the leaders have there meetings.  Monday was my first meeting because I was away last week at the cricket.  At the meeting we read a book about leadership and then we talked about it.  The book was called 8 things I wish I knew about high school written by GRIP leadership.  After that the heads and deputies continued with our plan on our poster competition.  We had to check the comments that Mr Ladbrook had left because there was still some stuff that we hadn't done.  The worst thing about that was that we only got about five minutes on that.  I showed leadership by being at the right place at the right time to attend the meeting.
